LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Board of Commissioners will be updated Monday on the status of the N.C. Horse Council Foundation’s efforts to raise money to build stalls at the newly named Southeastern North Carolina Agricultural Events Center.

Sue Gray, the foundation’s executive director, is slated to address the board at its 6 p.m. meeting in the commissioners meeting room of the county administration building on North Elm Street.

The goal of the Horse Council Foundation’s stall-naming project is to find 100 donors willing to put up $1,000 each to name 100 stalls. Overall, the goal of the foundation is raise enough money, projected at between $500,000 and $650,000, needed to build permanent stalls at the center.

According to the foundation, it hopes to raise $200,000 through private donations and the rest through grants. The stalls will complete the pavilion and make the facility a tier-one arena, which supporters say will mean more events, larger crowds and more jobs for the area.

The kickoff for the project to name the stalls was held Aug. 27 at the Golden Corral in Lumberton. More than $12,000 in donations was collected during that event.

Gray told those at the kickoff that the equine industry can have an enormous boost on Robeson County’s economy. She said that agri-tourism is rising and Lumberton is in a position to benefit. A major event is scheduled for Sept. 28 to Sept 30 that is projected to boost the local economy by as much as $1 million.

The commissioners on Monday will also hear a presentation on Robeson Community College’s budget for the 2012-13 fiscal year. The presentation will be made by Charles Chrestman, president of the college.

Some people are born liars while others are PAID LIARS. If it smells like mature you know it is just more BS.

Oh well I am sure the commissioners have an alternate plan. They'll allow Robeson County to use any empty stalls as classrooms for our children's public education. Remember to vote!!!

Since ALL of the COCKROACH CLOWNMISSIONERS have the rear end of a horse on their shoulders, they should give the NC Horse Council whatever they want.
