Zeb Bradley Oxendine

Bradley Oxendine, of 604 W.D. Locklear Road, died Sept. 14, 2012, on the eve of his departed mother’s 81 Birthday. Zeb walked his trail of life 52 years.
The funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Faith of Calvary Baptist Church, the Revs. Chalmers Kerns and Dewight Deal officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Baptist Church Cemetery in Fairmont.
He was an ordained and licensed minister under the watchcare of Faith of Calvary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Zeb Vance Oxendine and Emmy Hunt, his maternal grandparents, Tommy L. and Emma Lafoza Gibbs Freeman, his parents, Jack Pittman and Hattie Mae Freeman Oxendine, one brother, Jack Pittman Oxendine, Jr.; two sisters, Elizabeth O. Locklear and Delphane Oxendine; two nieces, Marlena Carol Chavis and Fawn Sunshine Oxendine.
Zeb is survived by four brothers, Jack Morton Oxendine of Killeen, TX, Tommy Oxendine and wife Liz of Newport News, VA, Frankie Oxendine of New Bern and Anthony Ray Oxendine and wife Cindy Lou of Barton, Vermont; four sisters, Sylivia J. Lowery and husband Eugene of Fayetteville, Geraldyne O. Lewis and husband James R. of Lumberton, JoAnne O. Leviner and husband Ronnie of Hope Mills, and Patsy O. Wilkins and husband Timmy of Lumberton; eight nephews, 10 nieces, 19 great-nephews and 13 great-nieces.
He served as a Caregiver the last 3 years of his life, leaving behind Mr. Elmer Hunt and our Aunt Christine Freeman and family whom he had a very special and close relationship with for many years, his church family and a host of relatives, friends and work associates.
The visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Revels Funeral Home Lumberton.

Holden Beach
Wilbur Thompson (Bill) Inman of Holden Beach, formerly of Rowland, died Sept. 14, 2012, with his family by his side.
The funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Rowland Presbyterian Church.
Bill was born on March 12, 1926, in Robeson County, son of the late Joseph Raymond and Amelia Thompson Inman. Bill was ¬preceded in death by his first born son, Joseph Raymond Inman, Jr., his sister Martha Inman Smith and brother’s Dick, William, Roger, Johnny and Bobby Inman. Bill grew up and lived most of his life in Rowland, NC, where he met and married Ruth Mayes Lamb on July 23, 1948. They were married 64 years and raised four children together.
Bill is survived by his wife, Ruth; their children, Jimmy and wife Laurie of Leland, Annie Ruth Schilling and husband Michael of Holden Beach, Tommy and wife Suzi of Rowland; five grandchildren, Anna Marie Jackson Wolfe and husband Christian of Dillon, S.C.; Kelly Inman of Raleigh, Jordan and Tyler Inman, Emily Bracey of Rowland, two great-grandchildren Jackson and Ruthie Wolfe of Dillon; three sisters, Betty Anne Floyd of Fairmont; Anna Margaret Overman of Douglas, AZ; Pauline Hudson of Greenville; brother Pat of Ocean Isle Beach; and many nieces and nephews spread all over the US and overseas.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Rowland Presbyterian Church and served his country in the US Navy for 4 years during World War II on a minesweeper ship in the North Sea, on LSM 452 during the battle for Okinawa in the South Pacific and was in the armada headed toward Japan when the end of the war was announced. He always said the most beautiful sight he had ever seen was the night they announced the end of WWII and all the ships turned their deck lights on for the first time. He said there were literally hundreds of ships as far as he could see in every direction. Bill and Frank Cranford of Dillon, opened and operated Dixie Carpet Service in Rowland for many years. Fond memories were made at the many barbeques they prepared and shared with members in the surrounding community each December before the Christmas holiday. Bill and Ruth retired and moved from Rowland to Holden Beach where he could do what he loved…live on the water and fish. He was always a sailor at heart.
The visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. at the Church Fellowship Hall.

The family would like to thank Carolyn and Heather Gales for their love and care as well as The Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their dedicated support during his final days.
No one understands the value of a moment until it becomes a memory. Our father was a special person. We’ve loved him, laughed with him, and cried with him. We will cherish the many memories he’s left us. Thanks, “Daddy”, “Papa”, “Great-Papa”,… you will be greatly missed.

Betty Strickland, 65, of Maxton, died Sept. 13, 2012.
The funeral service will be 3 p.m. today at Maxton First Assembly Church, the Rev. Gary McMillan officiating. Burial will follow in the Strickland family cemetery.
Betty was born in Robeson County on January 9, 1947, daughter of the late Angus and Gertrude Clark Strickland. She was a devoted homemaker and a loving mother and grandmother. She enjoyed collecting Indian dolls and sharing time with family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert Dale Locklear and Timmy Ray Locklear; two brothers, Angus Strickland Jr. and L.C. Strickland; two sisters, Irene Smiling and Annie Ruth Strickland; three grandchildren, Amanda Gail Smiling, Samantha Gail Smiling and Joshua Smiling; her children, Rodney Harry Strickland of Maxton, Robin Locklear Smiling of Laurinburg, and Dale Locklear Jones of Laurinburg; sisters, Loula Mae Smiling of Maxton, Janie Oxendine Maynor of Pembroke; seven grandchildren; and her k-9 friend, Cookie and a host of family and friends.
The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Richard Boles Funeral Service.

Kay Frances Taylor Britt, 55, of Bladenboro, died Sept. 14, 2012, at New Hanover Medical Center.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Antioch Baptist Church, the Rev. Mark Meadows officiating.
She was born on May 5, 1957, in Robeson County to Frank Taylor and Nell Pittman Taylor. She was formerly employed as a textile machine operator at Kendell Co.
She is preceded in death by her father, Frank Taylor.
Britt is survived by her mother, Nell Pittman Taylor of the home; and two sisters, Carol Taylor Britt and husband, James, and Brenda Taylor, all of Lumberton.
The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory.

She is survived by cousins.
The viewing will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at L. E. Floyd Funeral Home, Red Springs.
The family will receive friends at the home of George and Clara Mc Neill, 403 West Fourth Ave, Red Springs.
