PEMBROKE — Two Robeson Count residents were winners of the juried art exhibition of Fayetteville State University and The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

They are Daniela Jimenez of Maxton, who won first place for printmaking, and Kayla Seedig of St. Pauls, who won second place for drawing and painting. The winners were announced recently during a region-wide Chamber of Commerce mixer in UNCP’s University Center Annex.

There were 27 student artists featured in the exhibition.

PEMBROKE — The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will begin its Broadway and More Series on Friday with Tony-nominated “Smokey Joe’s Cafe,” a rock-n-roll musical.

The musical, which begins at 8 p.m., features hits like “On Broadway,” “Hound Dog,” “Jailhouse Rock,” and “I’m A Woman,” It won a Grammy Award for Best Musical, and was nominated for seven Tony Awards.

Tickets are $15 to $30 for adults, $12 for children or students and $5 for UNCP students.
