LUMBERTON — Trish Terrell, a Lumberton author who writes under the name p.m. terrell, is the Friends of the North Carolina Public Library Volunteer of the Year. She will receive a certificate at the library’s annual meeting on Oct.27 in Greensboro.
As co-founder of the Book ‘Em Foundation, a writers conference and book fair that raises public awareness about the correlation between high illiteracy and crime rates, Terrell established Book ‘Em North Carolina, an annual event in Lumberton that raised $9,000 for literacy campaigns in Robeson County this year.
LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Partnership for Children will hold Smart Arts, an arts series featuring art and music classes for children 2 to 5 years old, from Oct. 17 through Nov. 19.
The classes will be held on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Robeson County Partnership for Children’s facility.
Music, movement, painting, sculpting and drawing classes will be taught by local artists and musicians with a theme of nature, the environment and American Indian culture.
The cost, which is $60 and includes materials, is due at the time of registration. For information or to register, call the Robeson County Partnership for Children at 910-738-6767. The deadline to register is Oct. 10.
PEMBROKE — Peace in the Park, a free concert series, will conclude on Thursday with a performance by the local indie-rock group Dark Water Rising. The event will be held from from 7 to 9 p.m. at Pembroke Town Park.
