MAXTON — A Maxton woman who had previously been charged with burning her McGirt Road home to collect insurance money is now accused of using the fire to defraud the Red Cross.
Julia Locklear, 31, of 114 Sanderson Road, is charged with obtaining property by false pretense after she received $95 for food from the Red Cross after a June 17, 2010, fire destroyed her double-wide mobile home at 3325 McGirt Road, according to sheriff’s Lt. Brian Duckworth. Part of Red Cross’ mission is to help people who have lost their homes to fire with temporary good, clothing and lodging.
Julia Locklear was previously charged with solicitation to commit arson, felony conspiracy, felony insurance fraud and felony obtaining property by false pretense after she made an arrangement with her mother, 58-year-old Jackie Hunt Locklear, to have 46-year-old Jennifer Sanders to burn the home, according to Duckworth. Julia Locklear, her sister, 35-year-old Chasity Renee Locklear, and her mother, Jackie Locklear, then collected $22,000 in insurance money.
Julia Locklear’s bond for the new charge was set at $5,000.
