Staff report

LUMBERTON — The Lumbee River Electric Membership Cooperation on Thursday held an election that returned one member of the board of directors for another three-year term and filled the remaining three seats with a business owner, an insurance salesman and a retired member of the United States Army.

Wyatt Upchurch was returned as the District 6 representative. New member Eric “Fuller” Locklear will represent District 3; Jarette Sampson will represent District 4; and Rory Eddings will also represent District 6.

Locklear, a restaurant owner and member of the Lumberton Chamber of Commerce, has been a member of the cooperative for 12 years. Sampson, an eight-year member of the co-op, sells insurance and is a member of the Alumni Association of The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Eddings, the owner of R&R Protective Services who was in the military for 21 years, has been a cooperative member for 17 years.

The election was held at the cooperation’s 72nd annual meeting at Givens Performing Arts Center at UNCP. A record 2,718 members registered for the meeting.

I don't know Eric Fuller personally but I have seen him attend charity events and help a lot of people by donations. I can respect a man like that. It shows he cares about people and hasn't forgotten were he come from. Ive also seen Jarrett Sampson out in public and delt with him occasionally. I can tell you now he could care less about his position. He just ran for the looks of making him look good. He has the snobbiest attitude and acts all high and mighty as if he's better than others. I guess you could put him in the category with Bryan Brewington and that crowd....a bunch of high class nobody's.

Let me start by saying to Cheyman that if the only way to have your lights on is to know a Board Member, then practically half of Robeson, Hoke, and Cumberland counties are screwed. I would hope that these folks have the commonsense to call the office to explore their options rather than "burning" up a board members phone. Secondly, have you sat down and had a conversation with Mr. Eric Locklear? Do you know his family? Have you attended church with him? Have you spoken with him on any benefit bike rides, Lumbee Elder dinners and various community service activities he attends? Because I am curious as to how you know this man so well yet can still sound so ignorant as to who he is. Is becoming a Board Member all about favors? Well again if that is the case we were all cheated by the ones that just left office. You want to know about Eric Locklear, go talk to him. I am sure he has a free moment to answer any of your concerns.

Well I hope everyone that voted for Mr Locklear never needs a favor, especially an extension on ya lights, cause you more than likely will end up in the dark!!! And you can believe he wont care a thing about you when you are sitting in the dark! His castle will be lite up like the white house, I feel sorry for all the people that gets there money late or just don't have it to pay that mth, things aint lookin good for ya. Eric only cares about Eric, and the ones that voted for him will see what, who and how he really is, it's all about the money and attention to him, not what it should be about , which is the people! For all the ones that called on Ambrose that needed help you all can't say he didn't help you if he could. So if you voted against him shame on you and I hope your new Elected Mr Locklear works out for ya! Ambrose Locklear is one of the finest men I have every had the pleasure to ha meet, and unlike some, he is the same man today as he was yesterday. He will still help who ever when ever he can, weather you voted for him or not, so all the one's that felt the need for a change , I hope it is one you all can live with! Some may need to stock up on the candles. JS

My first response to you, is that I would have expected more professionalism. This isn't a text message to your friend, "ya". You obviously don't know Mr. Eric Locklear. Eric and his wife are two people that have went over and beyond to help people. Next, You need to look up the defintion for a "castle", you will know he doesn't live in a castle (a fortified residence protected by security in a medieval environment). You should be proud that a young man has worked hard and acquired a "HOME" like he has. Let's use your terms, "Don't Hate!" I'm glad to see LREMC has acquired a successfull businessman to help make better business decisions, instead of a corrupt political handshake. That's what the company needs. If you need an extension on your lights, you should be calling the office, not a board member. If you are denied by the office, shame on you, you obviously have bad credit and never pay on time. As for the elders and disaled, there's a late charge wavier for them to acquire to help out with paying first of month. Other than that, theres plenty of agencies that can help you. That's if you are truely a person in need and not someone just beating the system. As for Mr Ambrose, thanks for all your time and support to the community. But, there just comes a time to step down and let others handle the business that needs business decisions. Feel free to reply if you would truely want to get to know the "Real" "Eric Locklear".
