Staff report

LUMBERTON —Three men robbed a Lumberton meat salesman at gunpoint Wednesday near Edgewood and Alexander streets and shot at his truck as he drove away, according to Lumberton polices Sgt. Harold Jackson.

Kevin Purvis, of Florence Court, was working in a mobile meat sales truck in the area of Edgewood and Alexander streets at about 8:09 p.m. when three men approached him and one of the men pulled out a gun, according to Jackson.

One of the men held Purvis at gunpoint while the other two men searched Purvis’ pockets and stole more than $300 of meat from the truck, Jackson said. Purvis was able to get into his 1998 Ford Ranger and drive away, but as he was leaving one of the men shot at the vehicle, Jackson said. Damage to the truck is estimated at $800, according to a police report.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the robbery to contact the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845. Callers can remain anonymous.

Well Ross,....The first question that comes to mind is??? What's the man doin in the projects with a truck load of meats and cash in the first place??? It's not the first of the month???? If you see somebody in those projects with a truck load of meat and cash, it's definately the first of the month and they just spent half of their O'Bama card at BO's supermarket and traded the balance of the card for cash or robbed somebody in the parking lot!!!
