PEMBROKE — Julie Layne, a 15-year administrator at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke, has been promoted to assistant director of Distance Education.

Layne will work to develop classes and programs online and on satellite campuses.

GreenZone

event Saturday

LUMBERTON — Robeson Community College will hold the grand opening of the GreenZone, a project that promotes training in the area of sustaninable agriculture and green technology, on Friday at 2:30 p.m. at 5160 Fayetteville Road.

The GreenZone will feature a greenouse, raised plant beds and solar panels.

Bethea to join

People trip

FAIRMONT — Jessica Elizabeth Bethea of Fairmont will join the People-to-People student ambassador delegation that travels to France, Italy and Greece in the summer of 2013. The program promotes educational journeys around the world.

Bethea, who is the daughter of Douglas and Mozell Bethea, attends Fairgrove Middle School.
