LUMBERTON — Two employees of different banks qualified to cash in with a new car on Tuesday.

Susan Rozier, an employee at PNC Mortgage, and Teresa Tyler, an employee at BB&T, were selected as finalists in the United Way Car Giveaway Drawing.

“I’ve been donating for a couple of years now,” Rozier said. “I used to be on the United Way board, so it’s a chance to give back to the community.”

Rozier, who used to live in Robeson County, was recently relocated for her job to Jacksonville, Fla. When she was asked where she wanted her donation to go to, she chose Robeson County.

Sandra Oliver, executive director of the United Way of Robeson County, made sure to mix the more than 850 entries well before turning them in the rotating cylinder and letting Jeff Prince, owner of Fair Bluff Ford, make a selection.

The two qualified in the drawing as fair-share givers — meaning they contribute at least the equivalent of one hour’s pay a month to United Way. According to United Way officials, BB&T has the largest number of fair-share givers to the current campaign.

Rozier and Tyler became the ninth and 10th finalists among 20 who will participate in a reverse raffle in December at Biggs Park Mall. The last person standing will pick an envelope that will tell them which car they will drive away in — either a Chevrolet Spark, Nissan Versa, Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit or Toyota Yaris.

Drawings are held on Tuesdays and rotate at the participating dealerships — Lumberton Chevrolet, Lumberton Honda, Terry Chapin Nissan, Peterson Toyota and Fair Bluff Ford. The next drawing will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Peterson Toyota.

The United Way’s campaign goal is $715,000. It is not too late to become eligible for the United Way Car Giveaway. For information on how to become a fair-share giver, call the United Way at 910-739-4249.

I hope whomever wins it drives it thru the front of the bank. That would be funny as Hell.
