LUMBERTON — Three Maxton teenagers were arrested Wednesday and charged with breaking into a school on Hilly Branch Road, according to sheriff’s Maj. Howard Branch.
James Devon McNeil, 18, of the 5000 block of Mt. Zion Church Road, Byron Dewayne Locklear, 17, of the 4000 block of Mt. Zion Church Road, and Damian Ray Jacobs, 17, of the 400 block of McGirt Gin Road, are each charged with felony breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, and conspiracy, according to Branch.
Branch said that about 2 a.m. Wednesday an alarm was triggered at Hilly Branch Career Center. When deputies arrived, they found a window had been broken and the door unlocked; inside they found welding leads and copper valued at about $3,000 had been stolen.
Branch said that a responding deputy saw a car run a stop sign. The deputy stopped the car and the three teens, all dressed in black, were inside the vehicle, which was loaded with welding leads and copper wiring that had been stolen from the school
McNeill, Locklear and Jacobs are being held at the Robeson County jail. McNeill was being held on $25,000 bond; Locklear was being held on $30,000 bond; and Jacobs, who is also charged in an October break-in on McGirt Gin Road, was being held on $40,000 bond. Their first court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday.
