PEMBROKE — The operating officer of Lumbee Tribe Enterprises says there are 100 jobs immediately available for Lumbee tribal members and others qualified to work as cell tower installers.

Ron Oxendine told The Robesonian this week that the jobs — which pay $26 an hour — are available with a “large major contractor.” He did not name the contractor.

Oxendine said that training for the jobs will be conducted in Tennessee, with the work being done in Washington state, Ohio, Oregon and Colorado.

According to Oxendine, with the state of the economy nationwide, the jobs will be going fast. He said that Lumbee Tribe Enterprises is just one of many companies across the country trying to provide workers for the positions.

“We’re competing with other companies and it’s always a race to the finish line,” Oxendine said. “These jobs are not dedicated just for Lumbees, but are available for anyone who qualifies.”

Lumbee Tribe Enterprises is a small business owned by the Lumbee Tribe that is looking to provide products and services to industry and government. It is headquartered in Pembroke and also operates out of Stafford, Va.

Oxendine, a Robeson County native and founder of RNB Technologies Inc., a minority owned business based in Stafford, assisted the tribe in getting the operating in 2011. He has described Lumbee Tribe Enterprises as an entity that provides the tribe an avenue to generate revenue and create jobs by pursuing government and industrial contracts,.

“This is just one of the first opportunities for people in Robeson County to be hired for this kind of job,” Oxendine said in reference to the cell tower installer jobs.

Oxendine said he is seeking resumes from those interested in the positions. He said he will screen all applicants to see if they meet the eligibility and qualification requirements for the job, and if they do he will forward applications to the project manager for hiring consideration.

“There is no guarantee that everyone in Robeson County who is qualified will be hired,” Oxendine said. “The contractor will be considering applicants from all across the country.”

Oxendine said that those interested in being considered for the jobs need to get their resumes to him quickly.

“These jobs will go fast,” he said. “They could be gone as early as next week.”

Resumes should be faxed to Oxendine at 540-658-1282.

What does it mean that Oxendine "assisted the tribe in getting the operating in 2011."?

100 jobs? And this guy actually thinks someone from around here has a chance? Obama's economy...

Back when Bush was running things, he had un-employment down to 4.6% for the majority of his time in office. It was only the last few months everthing went down hill, because obama was gaining traction and employers knew it was time to lay people off.

Even when the report appears to be positive, you can not refrain from making your disparaging comments. You seem to think you have all of the answers, why not enlighten the rest of us with something constructive? From what I've observed, you only lend credence to the old adage "an empty vessel makes the most noise".

Verbalrcity: I'm the mayor of "Realville". I don't sugar coat anything, I tell it like it is. You sit there and think 100 jobs is wonderful when we have 30 million people out looking? C'mon now lets get real.

I do like silver linings, but my goodness, 100 jobs is nothing siver. Heck, Wonder bread just laid off 18,000 people..... Obama's world!

Get used to it. The people who didn't vote for him are sheltered from his stupidity, we don't depend on him or some 100 jobs out of 30 million un-employed people, darn.......
