Two people were shot Thursday night in separate incidents, according to sheriff’s Capt. Anthony Thompson, but neither was seriously injured.

James Hammonds, 64, of Moss Neck Road, Lumberton, was shot in the leg at about 9:18 p.m. while he was sitting in the living room of his home, according to Thompson. Thompson said Hammonds heard a kick at his door and then heard another kick that knocked open the door. He said when the door opened, a man came into the house, shot Hammonds in the leg and fled.

Also on Thursday night, Patsy Oxendine, 32, of Townsend Chapel Road, Pembroke, was shot in the head at about 9:11 p.m. at 8892 Rennert Road, Shannon, according to Thompson.

Thompson said Oxendine was sitting in her car talking on her cell phone when she heard a gunshot and was struck in the head by a pellet.

Both Hammonds and Oxendine were treated and released from Southeastern Regional Medical Center, according to Amanda Crabtree, a spokesperson for hospital.

Anyone with information should call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3198.
