David Rudolph Tolar, 96, of Lumberton, died Nov. 30, 2012, at Highland Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lumberton.

The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Biggs Funeral Home Chapel, the Rev. Johnny Bruce officiating. Burial will follow in New Hollywood Cemetery in Lumberton.

Tolar was a native of Robeson County and retired as a Major with 30 years with the Lumberton Police Department. He was a Marine Corps Veteran of World War ll 1941 thru Nov. 1945. Tolar was a lifetime supporter of the Toys for Tots and a very gratuitous, humble and caring gentleman.

Tolar is survived by a niece, Evelyn Lucille Tolar Bullock and husband Harold; a great-nephew, Danny Bullock and wife Marla; three great-nieces, Nancy Allen and husband Jimmy, Wanda McLean and husband Malcolm and Evelyn Bullock; seven great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews, Jason Bullock, Brandi Davis and husband Scott, Ashley Allen, Kelli Allen, Michelle Wright and husband Jonathan, Chris Bullock and Heather Ivey and husband Scott; seven great-great-great-nieces and great-great-great-nephews, Morgan Jackson, Siearra Davis, Destany Davis, Scott Davis Jr., John Jackson, Toby Davis and Cassidy Wright.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Biggs Funeral Home in Lumberton, and at other times at 37 Pine Meadow Road in Lumberton, N.C., 28358.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes for donations to be made to the Marines Toys for Tots Foundation at www.toysfortots.org.
