UNCP celebrates commencement Friday, Saturday

PEMBROKE — Winter commencements at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will be held on Friday and Saturday.

Graduate commencement is Friday at 7 p.m. in the Givens Performing Arts Center, where approximately 108 graduates will be “hooded” during the ceremonies. Doors will open at 6 p.m.

Undergraduate commencement is Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Main Gym of the English E. Jones Health & Physical Education Center, where approximately 492 students will graduate. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m.

The keynote speaker for both events is David Nikkel, grand marshal for the event and winner of the 2012 UNC Board of Governors Award for Teaching Excellence. As a member of the faculty in the Department of Philosophy and Religion, Nikkel is a teacher, scholar and practitioner.

Guests are asked to arrive early.

For the processionals, doors will close five minutes ahead of the start time for both events.
