Well, we can put a big bow on this year’s The Empty Stocking Fund, which has finished with $60,597.94 donated.

According to Teresa Harris of the Department of Social Services, which administers the program, $50 vouchers has been distributed to 583 families to provide $50 vouchers for 1,296 children. If you are doing the math, understand that there was a little bit left in the fund from late donations last year and that money was used. This is the second highest number of children who have benefited from the fund during any single year.

We will mention a few of the donations from Friday.

The Lumber River of Council’s annual bowling tournament raised $7,700. The council’s Adrian Lowry said, “We would like to thank all the bowlers and those who sponsored this event. We would like to especially thank Scott McLean and the staff at the Lumberton Bowling Center.”

The tournament featured 105 bowlers and teams from LRCOG, Lumbee Tribal Housing, Titan Flow Control, Robeson County Departments of Health and Social Services, LBC League Bowlers, Fullers BBQ, Lumberton Police Officer Association, The Robesonian, Jim 3 Amusement, Northwoods Fire and Rescue, and Musselwhite, Musselwhite, Branch & Grantham. There were also teams sponsored by several local businesses.

We received a very generous $1,200 gift from six doctors and Lumberton Radiological Associates, a $500 gift from Terry Pate’s Home Sales in honor of Pam Rancke, and a $500 gifts from Lumberton’s finest, firefighters and police officers. Photos can be found inside of all three donations.

We want to thank everyone again for your generosity in making gifts, and John and Pam Rancke for inspiring so many people to donate during such a difficult time in their lives. A special thanks to the anonymous benefactor who inspired many of the 259 gifts that were received, enough to add the entire pledge amount, $6,000, to today’s total.

We wish everyone a merry Christmas.

Kudos to the many who volunteered their time and support for this. It will benefit many. As far as how the money is used by those who receive it? That's not for us to be concerned about. God has a deeper understanding of the world around us than any of our own feeble minds can comprehend. Ross, first time I have ever disagreed with you on a point.

Just as we tithe 10% of our pretax dollars, which is not really our money. It isn't our concern how that money is maximized by those who benefit from it. Obeying what we are supposed to do is our bottom line concern. God gave me success to benefit others, with little discernment as to how it's spent. As a conservative, I had to speak up and voice this as it should be voiced.

Ross...

We give because we WANT to... obviously you are a bitter individual. We will pray God breaks through your heart of stone. Christmas= giving because God gave his Son for you... whether you except his free gift or not...

Giving is fine, I just choose who I give to, and someone who is GETTING all year doesn't qualify for my gifts. Sorry, I don't blindly throw money out to anyone to "make myself feel worth". I have no guilt, am not embarrassed of my accomplisments, and don't need to do something just to feel warm and fuzzy. The constituents I choose are vetted before gifts are given... You know, sorta like the way God does before he allows one to enter heaven or like Santa with his list, and "checking it twice"..... So do I.

Merry Christmas to good people, the few the proud.

It's the same kind of people "helping" the same kind of people anytime voluteering, donating or helping is done.........

Couldn't the poor organize a yard cleaning group during the summer months to cut grass and wash cars? The poor never return any favors with their time, and lord knows they have plenty of that.

Good job Robeson.

I wonder how much longer my beloved newspaper will continue to let you make your comments of ignorence and poor judgement.

We cant even read a reading of donations were kids eyes will be brite tomm morning and heart filled with joy.

Your name isnt on the list so dont comment. I bet your kids and grandkids will not be receiving anything from you. Bitter. You need to get over being bitter and being the victim of something. Probably being a terrible selfish person I bet.

Merry christmas robenson

David, I'm very happy, have a beautiful loving family. Not bitter at all, I'm thankful.

Bitter are the ones lined up for everything free. How can I be bitter, I depend on me. They are bitter BECAUSE they depend on me. Now that's bitter.

When you see someone swipe an EBT card, look at how angry and bitter they look, look at the kids, look in moms eyes. That is bitter. Jealousy of others by depending on them will make one bitter.

Merry Christmas, they won't even say that, they're bitter.
