FAIRMONT — A 21-year-old Fairmont man is in critical condition after being shot Friday night, and a Rowland man has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
According to Fairmont Police Chief Danny Parker, Jeffery Collins, of 412 Meadowwood Circle, Fairmont, was “critically injured” when he was shot once at public housing complex and on Saturday was at UNC Hospitals fighting for his life. Parker said that 20-year-old Jahdarrius McNair, of 96 Rose Hill Road, Rowland, was arrested early today and charged with the crime.
arker said McNair will be charged with murder if Collins does not survive his injuries.P
According to Parker, Collins was among a group of people outside of unit 509 at McDaniel Street Apartments when shots were fired at 6:44 p.m.
“There was a group of guys standing outside this apartment talking, and then all of sudden there were multiple shots fired,” Parker said. “They scattered, some ran inside apartment, some ran behind it, to try to get away.
“Some of them realized Jeffery was nowhere to be seen … . They went back to the porch and he was lying beside the steps.”
Parker said Collins was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center by South Robeson Rescue and then flown to UNC Hospitals.
Parker said that investigators do not believe Collins was the “intended victim.”
He said that among the group at McDaniel Street Apartments was another man who was victimized by McNair on Oct. 16. McNair was also served with warrants charging him with armed robbery and car larceny in the October incident.
Parker said that a second person was also involved in the Oct. 16 crimes. Devon Brown, 20, of 508 E. Ninth St., Lumberton, 20, was arrested about 3 a.m. today at the Royal Inn in Lumberton and charged with armed robbery and car larceny.
The State Bureau of Investigation, the Sheriff’s Office and Lumberton police have helped with the investigation, according to Parker.

"assault rifles aren't needed"..? Who made you God to tell someone what they need or don't need. He took her car to drive to the school, why not ban cars? She had three cars, did she according to your logic, need all three? Define need. Isn't need personal, meaning what I need may not be what you need. But this is America sweetheart, and around here we cherish freedom, and yes people break laws. But you don't take my freedoms away because somebody breaks a law or someone dies. People have broke the law having extra marital affairs, people have died during sex, do we ban that just because?
You democrats are so funny, you'll take from the good and allow the bad to continue.
20 kids died last week, 55,559,615 babies in the womb have died since 1973 because of democrats... Why can't we just ban democrats?..................
Grown men standing around doing absolutely nothing but waiting to commit crimes. How pathetic. It's a wonderful world we all live in, but these people think "it's a jungle out there"... No it's not, it's beautiful out there.
Cut out free food, free public(yeah, right) housing, and these poor people will have to provide for themselves. A hungry man makes a good worker.........
