BALTIMORE — Back to the Beach.

Baltimore Ravens fullback and Robeson County native Vonta Leach coined the phrase on Twitter last fall in his quest for a return trip to the NFL Pro Bowl in Hawaii.

It worked then, so why not try it again.

"Thanks to my teammates, fans and peers. It's a great honor to be selected to my 3rd pro bowl," Leach wrote Wednesday night on Twitter to 44,000 followers after the league announced its selections. "Congrats to everyone who made it."

Leach and the Ravens are coming off arguably their biggest win of the season Sunday in Baltimore, a convincing 33-14 decision over the Giants that secured a second consecutive AFC North Division crown. It capped a busy week for the former South Robeson and East Carolina standout that included his seventh "Shop with a Jock" charity shopping spree at the Lumberton Walmart.

Leach was one of six Ravens picked for this year's team, a group that included safety Ed Reed and Pro Bowl first-timer Jacoby Jones. Jones is having a special year as a return specialist with three returns for touchdowns.

"I'm proud of Jacoby," Leach told the Baltimore Sun. "I've been with Jacoby now for five years. He's really grown up a lot. He's matured."

Leach will start and clear rushing lanes for tailbacks Arian Foster, Jamaal Charles and Ray Rice. Though watered down in recent years with a drastic drop in the level of play that has threatened the future of the event according to Commissioner Roger Goodell, most stars are still honored by Pro Bowl selections, Leach included.

This season's all-star game is scheduled for Jan. 27, 2013 — a week before the Super Bowl XLVII. Leach would politely decline the invitation to Honolulu should the Ravens reach the big game.

"I just want to win, I don't play this game for individual awards, but it's good when your peers recognize you," Leach said. "I'd rather be in New Orleans than go to the Pro Bowl."
