Susie Young

Lumberton

Susie Young, 86, of Lumberton, was born April 2, 1926, and departed this life on Dec. 24, 2012, at Southeastern Hospice House.

The funeral will be 8 p.m. Friday at the Rock Church of God on Carthage Road, the Rev. Kary Wilkins officiating. Entombment will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lumbee Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Susie was loved by all who knew her and she lived her life to earnestly serve others. For 15 years she worked as a home health Aide and when she wasn’t working she was visiting the sick and praying for the lost. She was a prayer warrior who fought the good fight of faith and on Christmas Eve she finally won.

Young was preceded in death by her parents, William Ander and Deisde Hardin; six brothers, Sanford, Howard, Eight, J.B., Laster and Jimmy; and three sisters, Dorothy, Fodie and Annie.

She was a beautiful tree firmly rooted in Christ and her branches of love that she leaves behind are three sons, Lonnie Young and his wife Joan, Keith Young and his wife Teresa, Elton Young and his wife Felicia of Lumberton; and her only daughter, Tammy Oxendine of the home; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece, Peggy Smith of Lumberton; two special friends, Earline Bell and Alice Carter, both of Lumberton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Rock Church of God.

Revels Funeral Home of Lumberton is serving the Young family.
