Robeson County schools out front in protecting children

To the Editor,

A nation has mourned the murders of countless victims in our country. The National Rifle Association has said put a police officer in every school.

I really don’t think that the NRA has ever been to Robeson County. We might be one of the poorest counties in the nation, but we love our children and there have been resource officers in our school system for years. The Public Schools of Robeson County is way ahead of those school systems in this nation that will return from the holidays to find the first armed resource officers in their schools. These officers have been a part of our schools for many years.

I have to say thank you to the Public Schools of Robeson County for keeping our children safe.

When the government did away with the majority of care for the mentally ill, the prisons in our state became the new mental hospitals. One day it will dawn on them that mental illness does not go away with a budget cut. If anything, it gets worse.

While the government is busy putting armed officers in the schools, Congress should remember they are the ones who took God out of the schools and took away the parents’ rights to take their child to the woodshed for a good spanking.

Although many SRO's do an excellent job in our schools, there are many that do very little to provide safety in the schools and serve as a school disciplinarian. The main issue, however, is that there is too much discretion left to the school administrators as what to address within the confines of school and what to refer to law enforcement and other agencies. Many school officers are made to feel as if they work for school principals and that the principals decide what they will and will not address. When that discretion goes away, you will see school officers work more toward addressing behavioral issues before they reach the magnitude of those we read about in the news.

See the brutally violent Truth about US Public School Beatings/Spankings of Children Kindergarten through Twelfth Grade, Legal in North Carolina, Illegal in Schools in 31 U.S. States, at YouTube Video trailer for Documentary Movie "The Board of Education" by Jared Abrams. School teachers, coaches and administrators legally hit children with thick wooden boards to inflict Pain Punishment for minor infractions with no due process, no safety standards to protect childrens from excessive force injuries or to prevent sadistic pedophiles from filming and sharing their perverse pleasure! The ACLU recommended enactment of Federal Bill H.R. 3027 "The Ending Corporal Punishment in Schools Act", Cost $0, at the Groundbreaking Senate Hearing on Ending the School-to-Prison-Pipeline held 12/12/12. Search "A Violent Education" 2008 Study by Human Rights Watch and ACLU for disturbing facts. dont hit students dot com

When I was in school I was beat with a 2 inch thick wooden paddel.... It hurt, but it straightened my attitude out. Then when I got home, I got another one.

I say if you don't want your kid beat, home-school it.

As a kid I rode a bike without a helmet, sat in the front and back seat of a car without seatbelts, jumped out of 2 story pack-houses(barnes), was throwed in the river and told to "learn how to swim", fist fought with friends, snuck out behind the barn and chewed tobacco, etc..... And look at me, I'm perfect.

Let those teachers whip your kid, it'll probably help his whining.

Ps. Here's a website for you: www.beatkids.org. "A beat kid is a good kid"

I can not name names. This is illegal!!! However, lets all demand that our Human Reaource Director have the Resource Officers at each school run pending record checks on staff at their schools. This would also imclude all staff in Robeson County including administration. Then each case should be handled due to the safety issues concerning our children. These issues have been hid long enough. . NCAE can not fight safety issues now!!!

I would be interested to know if there is some kind of grant or means of income for rob co schools for having the officers at the school. I can't hardly believe that they would do something to benefit the children that they do not get some sort of compensation for or some kind of kickback from somewhere. Just saying!! Dont know if antyone would ever admit to it or prove it but I am sure there is some sort of financial transaction somewhere because of it. Don't get me wrong I am thankful for the officers in the schools as we have children in a few of the schools but I also know rob co schools.

That's a great question. The DARE program is a national program and an excellent one that IF IMPL

EMENTED CORRECTLY has a curriculum to be TAUGHT to the kids. Those who truly care about every Robeson County kid being equipped with refusal skills to "Just Say No" would ensure that collaborative efforts and accountability would guide the implementation and have the trained officers TEACHING the curriculum (direct empowerment of the kids). Another grant is the GREAT (Gang Resistance Education and Training) one. Robeson County has had several of these through the years. Are the resource officers teaching these curriculums? If they are being channelled through the local Boys and Girls Clubs instead of the schools then there are many public school students who are missing the benefit. Step Up Robeson!

My concern is why teachers with pending criminal charges are still employed in our school system??? This includes drugs, alcohol and domestic crimes. If our school system is concerned, then explain why these same people are still teaching in our system??? Their associations are with habitual offenders which puts our children at risk. What if a domestic case is taken to the school??? I am very concerned and so are lots of parents. We have expressed our concerns and nothing has been done. Does Robeson have to be another Connecticut???

Amen, we have to put God first and if not we will see more things happening and budget cuts to save a little here and there ain't worth a childs life. My son attends Prospect School and the resource officer done a drill at the school. Just to say thank you because they will know what to do if anything ever happens like that. The love of MONEY is the root to all evil.

Hey feather, that resource officer doesn't have a gun sweetheart. So what did the kids learn to do during the drill, how to land softly after being shot? And that money and love statement.. Usually the only ones evil about money are the ones who don't have any and are jealous of the ones that do........
