Vashtie Lowery
LUMBERTON — Vashtie (Vass) Lowery, 86, of 172 Holy Swamp Church Road, Lumberton, was born Oct. 4, 1926, to the late Lester and Effie Ann Locklear. She departed her earthly home to be with her heavenly father on Jan. 9, 2013, after an extended illness.
The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday at Tabernacle Baptist Church, the Revs. Lacy Sanderson and Henry Oxendine officiating. Burial will follow in Lowery Cemetery on Moss Neck Road.
In addition to her parents,Vashtie was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Lowery; a daughter, Katherine Jacobs; a grandson, Ron Allen Jacobs; four brothers, Tracy Locklear, Less Locklear, Stacy Locklear and Alton Locklear; and three sisters, Eula Mae Brooks, Addie Locklear and Grace Locklear.
Vashtie leaves to cherish her precious memories by two daughters, Fay Brewer of Lumberton and Lucy Lowery of the home; a son, Arnold Locklear of Pembroke; two sisters, Hattie Sanderson of Lumberton and Daisy Locklear of Pembroke; two brothers, Rabeard Locklear of Charlotte and Lacy Locklear of Lumberton; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Revels Funeral Home in Pembroke.
