Hayes-Leazer
Samuel Marcus Leazer of Durham and Lois Gwendolyn Hayes of Charlotte were married at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Columbia, S.C. on Oct. 20. The Rev. John N. Leazer, Jr. officiated.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James and Lucille Hayes of Barnwell, S.C. She is the granddaughter of Mr. Daniel S. Hayes and the late Idella J. Hayes, and the late Mr. Marion and Mrs. Albertha Green. She is a graduate of Barnwell High School in Barnwell, S.C., Virginia State University in Petersburg, Va., and North Carolina Central University in Durham, N.C. The bride is currently employed as a speech-language pathologist in Durham.
The groom is the son of Mr.a nd Mrs. Samuel and Priscilla Leazer of Lumberton, and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hiawatha and Lurenda Berry and the late Mr. and Rev. John and Annie Leazer. He is a graduate of Lumberton Senior High School, North Carolina Central University in Durham, and the University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Ariz. He is the owner and CEO of the Leazer Allstate Insurance Agency in Durham.
The matron of honor was Loretta Hayes Hester, sister of the bride. The bridesmaids were Shavon Brown, Jennifer Devine, Keisha Gaskin, Monica Gibbs, Tyra Leazer Holman and LaMeisha Peeples. The flower girl was Alyssa Singletary.
The best man was Samuel Leazer, father of the groom. Groomsmen were William Dudley, Jr., Abdule Ellis, Anthony Joines, Jamal McDougal, Dion Mosby and Chad Simpson. The honorary groomsman, Robert Jones Jr., escorted the mother of the groom. Jonathan Hayes, brother of the bride, escorted the mother of the bride. The ushers were Brian Hayes and Jayrick Hayes. The ring bearer was Izayah McDougald.
A program of wedding music was presented by Te’Erica Taylor and Vincent Sanders. The wedding coordinator and director was Zavery McDougald.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, Columbia, S.C., hosted by the bride’s parents. Those assisting with the reception as hostesses were Harriett Abner, Latayveon Q. Best, Veronda Campbell, Sherenda Hunter and Brittany Saunders. Registry attendants were Marcella Chambers, Cheryle Chambers and Celeste Chambers.
A rehearsal dinner was held at the Hilton Garden Inn, hosted by the parents of the groom. Other social couresies honoring the couple included a bridal luncheon hosted by the sister of the bride, Loretta Hester, at The Rooster in Charlotte; a bridal shower hosted by Gwen McKiver, Rosalind Dockery, Mary Cole, Renee Williams and Tyra Leazer Holman in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Darryl McKiver in Lumberton; a shower sponsored by the bride’s co-workers at Alexandria Place in Gastonia; a bridal breakfast hosted by Atty T. Diane Surgeon and Sharon Scott in the home of Atty Surgeon in Lumberton; a bridal luncheon in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Stockton, hosted by Mrs. Shirley Stockton; and a “Dinner with the Family” for the groom, organized by Dr. Gloria Berry-Holly and Mrs. Melanee Bennett in Durham.
After a Carribean cruise, the couple will reside in Durham.
