Nellie McKay
OCEAN ISLE BEACH — Nellie Snipes McKay, 76, of Ocean Isle Beach, passed away Jan. 27, 2013, after a long battle with cancer.
The service will be 11 a.m. Feb. 16 at Camp United Methodist Church in Shallotte.
She was born in Robeson County. She was a daughter of the late Carl and Marion Snipes.
She lived her life in Lumberton until retirement led her to Ocean Isle Beach. She was a longtime employee of Westpoint and manager of the Converse Shoe Outlet.
She spent her days gardening in her yard, planting flowers, visiting friends, but most importantly to her, serving others. She loved her church and adored her family.
She is survived by her husband, William J. McKay; two sons, Cleveland Gaines and wife Mechelle, and Ellis Gaines and wife Pam, all of Raleigh; a stepson, Kyle McKay of Los Angeles; a stepdaughter, Alison Nuciolo of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Ricky Snipes and wife Amy of Whiteville; three sisters, Vicky Rich and husband Ricky of Hillsborough, Virginia Kissam and husband Sam of Boardman, and Peggy Mast and husband Bill of Henderson; four grandchildren, Brandon Gaines of New Jersey, Brittany Gaines of Lumberton, and Dylan Gaines and Drake Gaines, both of Raleigh; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was a special lady who will be missed by many.
