Earl Geer
FAIRMONT — Earl Barton “Bart” Geer, 93, of Fairmont, passed away Feb. 8, 2013, at his residence.
A celebration of Bart’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethesda United Methodist Church, 8414 S. Creek Road in Orrum, the Rev. Brian Perry officiating.
He was born on April 28, 1919, in Rockwell, Iowa to the late Avery and Lou Gibson Geer.
Bart was a graduate of Iowa State University and enjoyed a long career at NACA/NASA Langley, retiring as Director of Systems Engineering and Operations in 1981. After retiring, he worked at Martin Marietta in Baltimore, then Fluidyne Engineering, out of Minneapolis, and later as a private Engineering consultant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Milton Geer; and his sister, Susan Jean Strahorn.
Greer is survived by his former wife, Iris Carr Geer of Charlottesville, Va.; his daughters, Diane Leesman Wood and husband Paul of Charlottesville, Va., and Cheryl Barritt Gresham and husband Winslow of Hampton, Va.; his wife, Beverly Hardin McLees Geer of Richmond, Va., and her children, Kevin McLees and wife Lauren, of Richmond, Va., Kristen Milholen and husband William, of Carrollton, Va., and Kirk McLees and wife Myra,of Fairmont; his grandchildren, Lindsay Leesman Kingoff and husband Joe of Richmond, Va., Trip Leesman of Richmond, Va., Connie Barritt Grizzard and husband, Mark of Devil Hills, Bryce Barritt and wife Renee, of Devil Hills, Garrett McLees and Trent McLees of Richmond, Va., and Kelly McLees and Julia McLees of Fairmont; five great-grandsons; and many loved nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at a later date at First United Methodist Church, 110 E. Queen’s Way, Hampton, Va., 23669.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethesda United Methodist Church, First United Methodist Church-Hampton, or to the charity of your choice.
