To the Editor,

The Furman K. Biggs Fire Station on Bailey Road has received a facelift thanks to a few generous donors. To the delight of the firefighters who call the station their second home, the makeover began during the summer months and were recently completed. In 1983, the fire station was constructed in honor of Furman K. Biggs and has since been one of the homes of the Lumberton firefighters.

Kenny and Bonnie Biggs along with Mrs. Elizabeth Biggs Britt began the project to makeover the fire station in memory of their father. In a joint effort with the Lumberton Fire Department, the Biggs family has returned the fire station to its former glory with a new kitchen countertop and sink, refurbished cabinets, tile installation and fresh coat of paint. While supplies were provided by the Biggs family for the project, all of the work was completed by very talented firefighters. The newly hung valances were sewn and donated by Mrs. Candy Borbet. Interior decorating was completed by Bonnie Biggs and the new dining set that she chose was a perfect addition.

Greenstate Landscaping prepped the ground so that the firefighters could hand lay the sod that was provided by the Biggs family. The firefighters are excited about the station’s makeover and are proud to call the Furman K. Biggs station their home.
