Hunt should have refused bonus while school teachers are struggling

To the Editor,

In response to the huge headline on the front page of The Robesonian dated Feb. 14, 2013, I firmly believe that schools Superintendent Johnny Hunt should have refused his great and undeserved bonus of $10,000. How dare the school board do this, when our teachers in Robeson County are struggling to raise their families on the salary they are paid.

I have a son and a stepson in the school system and I know personally how hard it is for them to meet their obligations. I guess the old saying that “Top dog gets the bone” still stands.

Thanks to those that voted against this; we will remember you at voting time.

That should of never crossed his mind as a Leader of these over work. Held accountable struggling loyal teachers and janitors and all others to include bus drivers struggle to make ends meet through the month, and I bet he didnt even feel guilyor may be he did and cracked the whip more, watch for the retreats their comming soon!I thought we were cutting back Mr Hunt in 2012-2013?

I also agree that Johnny Hunt should have refused the $10,000 bonus. Given the state of our school system, and the fact that most students still do not have textbooks. As a parent I am outraged that the board feels he deserves the bonus. What about the students don't they deserve an education and textbooks? I know $10,000 wouldn't buy textbooks for all students, but it possibly could've made a difference to the students, who are far more deserving of the $10,000. I just don't see how or why he deserved it. A bonus for what? He really is not doing anything for our students, what about the teachers? They are the ones who work daily with limited resources to make a difference, and they don't get bonuses. I think the best bonus for all of us, would be to get a new Board. I'm just saying..

I couldn't agree more. That 10,000 dollars could have went towards books and school supplies that is greatly needed in schools. Especially mine!!!
