ADDIS CATES JR.

PARKTON — Addis “Tad” Pittard Cates Jr., 74, of Parkton, passed away on March 4, 2013, at Duke University Hospital.

A memorial will be 2 p.m. today at Parkton Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wayne Memorial Park in Goldsboro.

Tad was born on Oct. 20, 1938, to Addis P. Cates Sr. and Esther Curtiss Cates of Faison. He graduated from North Duplin High School in 1957 and East Carolina University in 1963. He married Kathryn Brown from Mount Olive on Dec. 26, 1962.

Tad was co-owner of Addis Cates Company until his retirement in 2000. After retirement he assumed a second career as a Presbyterian lay minister and served the Philadelphus Presbyterian Church in Red Springs.

Tad was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dr. Brooks Cates of Burlington; a daughter, Carmen Cates; and a nephew, Charles Cates.

Tad is survived by his wife, Kathryn; a son, Kevin Wolfe Cates of Parkton; his daughter, Kimberly Cates Woollen and her husband Steven of Wake Forest; a grandson, Barrett Woollen; and a brother, Curtiss Cates and his wife Monica of Hope Mills.

Family members will greet friends immediately afterwards in the church fellowship hall
