LUMBERTON — A Lumberton city councilman was recognized by the National League of Cities during its annual Congressional City Conference in March for demonstrating outstanding leadership as a member of the council.
Councilman Don Metzger achieved the Silver level in the Certificate of Achievement in Leadership program and was presented with an award in Washington, D.C.
“I feel that it is important to attend the Leadership Training Institute sessions to increase my knowledge about issues that affect the people in our community and to help me represent them to the best of my ability,” Metzger said in a statement.
Metzger earned 35 credits in five areas of municipal leadership: personal leadership growth and development; leading effective governance; effective communications and media relations; building communities through inspiration and empowerment; and leading innovation and managing change.
