The Robesonian’s all-county teams and individual awards are selected by Brad Crawford based on observation and opinion. Input from coaches is also taken into account during the selection process.

BOYS PLAYER OF THE YEAR, Kwinton Hinson, Soph., Fairmont — The missing piece to Fairmont’s playoff puzzle, the Three Rivers Conference’s Player of the Year helped the Golden Tornadoes end a 19-year regional drought with a league-leading 20.8 points and 10.9 rebounds per game. The smooth-shooting lefty was not only a threat along the baseline, he also made the second-most 3-pointers on his team, none bigger than a buzzer-beating jumper from the right wing against Northside that sent Fairmont into the East Regional final.

GIRLS PLAYER OF THE YEAR, Keanna McNeil, Sr., Lumberton — McNeill put the Lady Pirates on her back down the stretch and averaged nearly 30 points per contest over her team’s final three games. McNeil was one of Robeson County’s most efficient players at both ends of the floor. The former Shootout MVP took home her first conference player of the year honor this season.

BOYS, GIRLS COACHES OF THE YEAR — Fairmont’s Michael Baker and South Robeson’s Lula Ratley have been selected as The Robesonian’s boys and girls’ basketball coaches of the year. Fairmont’s boys advanced to the state semifinals for the first time since 1994 and captured their third consecutive league championship on their way to a dominant 25-6 season. The Lady Mustangs finished second in the Three Rivers Conference and reached the second round of the playoffs a year after second to last in the league standings.
