LUMBERTON — Robeson County players of the year Kwinton Hinson and Keanna McNeil added to their postseason awards Wednesday with All-District 4 honors, as voted on by members of the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association.

Hinson averaged a Robeson County-best 21.5 points per game at Fairmont, leading the Golden Tornadoes to their first regional final appearance in 19 years. McNeil, a conference player of the year like Hinson, was one of region’s most efficient players with a high field goal percentage and a near double-double average.

Hinson is joined on the boys’ first team by South View’s Rian Holland, Seventy-First guard Sidney Knox, Eddie Jackson from Westover and Hoke’s Tarique Thompson — a two-time 4A Southeastern Conference player of the year. Holland, the NCBCA’s district player of the year, is headed to Wichita State and averaged 23.1 points per game in Fayetteville as a senior.

Hinson returns to the floor Saturday in the seventh annual Dave Telep Carolina Challenge, a showcase for North Carolina’s brightest basketball stars, at Ravenscroft High. The left-handed, slick-shooting sophomore is the only underclassman to be named All-District 4.

On the girls side, Lumberton’s Danny Graham was recognized as the district’s top coach after leading the Lady Pirates to a second-place finish in the SEC with an overall record of 18-7. Joining McNeil as All-District 4 selections were Lumberton’s Aliyah Ratley — a second-team choice — and Azaya Graham, a third-teamer.

Hinson, McNeil and Ratley were each named all-county by The Robesonian on Sunday.

“Keanna really had a fantastic year leading this basketball team,” Graham said Wednesday. “She carried us offensively and really improved her game as a rebounder.”

Players are nominated for NCBCA all-district teams by their coaches. Coaches who are not members of the NCBCA are not eligible to nominate.
