LUMBERTON — Girl Scout Troop 719 will put on a children’s program on Friday to benefit the Robeson County Claws and Paws Rescue and the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
The activities will begin at 6 p.m. at Luther Britt Park and will include children’s activities such as a coloring contest, a poisonous plant flash card game, pin the bone on the dog and face painting. Registration will start at 5 p.m.
There will be information available about adopting animals and becoming a foster family. Leashed dogs can participate in the K-9 Relay for Life.

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Senior High School Marching Band will hold its annual yard sale on June 6 from 5:30 a.m. to noon at the corner of Linkhaw and Fayetteville Roads.

Girl Scouts win Gold Award
LUMBERTON — Lauren Alexandra Britt and Katye Marie Jobe earned their Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award in girl scouting, on March 22.
Britt earned her award by hosting a softball clinic during which participants worked through stations and were served a nutritious lunch. Jobe earned her award by collecting and distributing more than 50 coats to children at Janie Hargrave Elementary School.
The ceremony was held at Chestnut Street United Methodist Church. Congressman Mike McIntyre was the guest speaker.
Civic Center reduces prices for chamber members
LUMBERTON — Lumberton Area Chamber of Commerce members can take advantage of reduced ticket prices for an upcoming show at the newly renovated Carolina Civic Center.
Tickets for the following show have been reduced from $15 to $12 for chamber member: Saturday, May 2, at 8 p.m.: “Influences — Motown Greats.” The show features four singer-songwriters who will perform classics from artists like Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin and Smoky Robinson while sharing stories.
The Carolina Civic Center is at 315 N. Chestnut St. Tickets are available at the theater from 1 to 5 p.m. on weekdays or by calling (910) 738-4339.
Future pageant hopeful competes for feature
LUMBERTON — A Lumberton resident is competing in a contest sponsored by Fourpoints magazine, a publication that covers the Miss America pageant but isn’t affiliated with that pageant
Christin Oliver is competing against four other contestants from around the country in the magazine’s Precious Princess contest. Her profile is posted online at fourpointsmagazine.com and the people can vote for their favorite contestant. The winner will be featured in the June issue of Fourpoints. Voting ends May 1.
Oliver has been a North Carolina Princess for two years in the Miss North Carolina’s Scholarship Association. As a princess she has done community service for several groups, including Box Back Home, an organization that sends hygiene products to women soldiers overseas, Relay for Life and the Make a Wish Foundation.
