ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County's boys soccer team scored three second-half goals Wednesday night to rally for a 4-2 win over Lumberton in a Southeastern Conference match.

Brandon Benoist scored two of Richmond’s three second-half goals as the Raiders (9-7-1, 1-4-1) rallied from a 2-1 halftime deficit to edge out the Pirates (5-11-1, 2-4-1).

Richmond scored the first goal of the match in the fourth minute, but Steven Kirby and Michael Bailey netted goals for the Pirates to give Lumberton a 2-1 lead at the break.

Richmond's perseverance finally paid off as Brandon Standridge blasted a kick from 20 yards out past the diving Musselwhite to even the game at 2 in the 62nd minute. Just 35 seconds later, Benoist pushed a goal past Musselwhite on an assist from Gerrit Wilmsen, giving the Raiders a 3-2 lead.

The Raiders got an insurance goal in the 76th minute mark as Standridge passed to a streaking Benoist.

“We had some chances early in the second half to go up 3-1,” said Lumberton head coach Kenny Simmons. “I think if we’d gone up 3-1, things might have been different.”

Lumberton is at Scotland County Monday to close out the regular season.
