LUMBERTON — Two Robeson County men who were charged with murder have pleaded guilty to lesser crimes as part of plea arrangements.

The cases are unrelated.

Randy Jerome Locklear, 58, of 599 Isiah Road, Maxton, was sentenced on Jan. 14 by Superior Court Judge Robert Floyd to 10 to 19 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the death of his wife Katrina Locklear. The 38-year-old woman was found dead from a shotgun blast to the face by their 5-year-old son on May 7, 2004, according to District Attorney Johnson Britt.

Locklear was initially charged with first-degree murder, but Britt said that Katrina Locklear’s family did not want their son, now 11 years old, to go through the trial. Britt said the family is satisfied with the plea agreement.

No motive was ever given by Randy Locklear, but the son told investigators that his father had previously threatened his mother with a gun because he suspected that she was “talking to another man,” said Britt.

Britt said that Randy Locklear is the father of Luther Locklear, 31, of Pembroke, who is facing two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Delilah Locklear, 51, and Erica Locklear,13, whose bodies were found in their burned-out trailer on July 12, 2009. They had been stabbed to death

In the other plea case, Milford Locklear, 36, of 256 Arabian Drive, was sentenced on Jan. 19 by Floyd to four years and four months to six years and one month iin prison after he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and shooting into occupied property, according to Tony Berk, the assistant district attorney who prosecuted the case.

Locklear was initially charged with second-degree murder after 22-year-old Aaron Locklear was fatally shot in the parking lot of Perritt’s Grocery on Pine Log Road on Feb. 18, 2006. The two men were not related.

The incident occurred after an argument over a woman started at the Club N’ Motion on Lackey Street, said Berk.

The other charge stemmed from shots fired by Milford Locklear into a vehicle that was occupied by Aaron Locklear’s friends.

Berk said the plea agreement was offered because physical evidence was misplaced and pictures of Milford Locklear’s car, which was said to have been shot, were not taken by investigators.

Berk also said that Milford Locklear was recently convicted in New Hanover County for drug trafficking and was already serving three to three and a half years in prison.

Yes it is real sorry for them to loose evidence in a murder case. What really make it so bad they arrested the wrong person for the crime. If it was done right the real person would be behind bars instead of a person who didn't commit the crime. Instead the person who done the crime is walking around with a smile cause he has nothing to worry about. Now everybody is pointing the finger at this persons family. If Aarons family cared about who really did the crime they would really do something about it. The wrong person is going to pull a crime that he didn't even do, but when you live in Rob. Co that is the way it goes.

Carelessness by the investigators will allow a murderer out on the streets. It's strange how certain people can get off on crimes and others have to suffer the death penalt and lif in prison.
