KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Fairmont native William McGirt carded a 5-under-par 67 to take an early in the first round of the Nationwide's Knoxville News Sentinel Open.

McGirt had six birdies on the day, but bogeyed his final hole, the ninth, to drop back to 5 under for the tournament.

McGirt's total has him tied with four other golfers including John Daly, a two-time winner of majors on the PGA tour, and Kirk Triplett, also a winner on the PGA Tour.

Currently in 26th place on the Nationwide Tour's money list, McGirt is looking to rebound after missing the last two cuts. The top 25 on the money list at the end of the year automatically receive their PGA cards for the 2011 season.
