Cummings should lead in effort for county fiscal reform

To the Editor,

In an earlier letter to the editor prior to the release of County Manager Ricky Harris’ study on the commissioners’ pay and benefits, I noted that no study was required. After reviewing the study, I continue to stand by my comments and insight on its necessity. Mr. Harris’ provided fiscal information to the commissioners they were already privy to from The Robesonian. I noted then that the commissioners should take the information they already had, show leadership, and initiate fiscal reform. They did not take that advice.

Now they have received the report and the Citizens for Integrity in Government is watching to see if any fiscal reform is taken.

As a citizen of District 5, my county commissioner is Mr. Raymond Cummings. He took the lead in obtaining an arbitrary and unanimous vote to support the mine operation in Philadelphus while ignoring the citizens of that community he should be honored to represent. We expect him to show equal leadership on the issue of fiscal reform and guide the commissioners to another unanimous vote for reform while rebuilding his reputation with we the citizens of District 5.

Raymond, will you accept the challenge and lead on this issue? The citizens of District 5 are watching as well as all the Citizens for Integrity in Government.

Winning with a little over 100 votes may be a win, but it’s not a mandate. The days of running unchallenged as occurred this fall may be a thing of the past unless you show some leadership.

Hold on a second darling, before you go attacking people. It's because of Raymond that the county is progressive as it is. If it wasn't for him, we'd still be bakc in the stone age, without electric or nothin.

Tell me this, whose picture do you see plastered on the newspaper all the time? Raymond! Whose always making a comment about moving the state of robeson forward? Raymond! Whose responsible for getting that building built so we would have somewhere nice to see about our benefits? Raymond, that;s who. Everybody loves RAYMOND!

Leadership is hard-earned and is not static; therefore, Mr. Cummings must continue to lead and not rest on past performance. There is no more room for discussion, rhetorical politics; there is only action required. Raymond/Noah stop the excessive benefits, step up in the leaders circle, provide guidance that is right and just. Talk is not desired; action is required!
