Monday was a great day for the children depending on the benevolence of others for their Christmas presents as $1,500 was added to The Empty Stocking Fund, enough to check 30 children off of Santa’s long list.
All six of the gifts will be matched with a $25 donation that will be added to the fund’s total on the last day.
The largest gifts, each for $500, came from Speech Pathology & Audiology Services and First Baptist Church Pleasant Hill. There is a photo of owner Jennifer Stephenson and her staff at Speech Pathology & Audiology Services appearing with today’s article.
The fund’s total is now $3,822.
There are 1,781 who have been deemed eligible for help from the fund, which is administered by the Department of Social Services. Vouchers for $50 that can be redeemed at Kmart and Rose’s will be distributed to families for each child until the money runs out.
We encourage churches, schools, businesses and civic groups to contribute to the fund. With donations of $500 or more, The Robesonian will publish a photograph if that is requested. We can take the photograph or you can provide one.
Donations can be made in person at our office at 2175 N. Roberts Ave. or mailed to us at P.O Box 1028, Lumberton, N.C., 28359. Just make the check payable to The Empty Stocking Fund.
Each day The Robesonian will list the money donated and the contributors. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can do so by being listed as “A friend” or “Anonymous.” Donations can also be made in honor or memory of loved ones.
