RED SPRINGS -- Record-setting Red Springs junior quarterback Blake Greene has been named 1A State Player of the Year by NCPreps.com, one of North Carolina's leading prep football media outlets.

Greene set several Robeson County records this season en route to being named The Robesonian's Heisman and Three Rivers Conference Player of the Year. His 63 total touchdowns ranks fourth all-time on the NCHSAA's single-season record list.

Greene threw 51 touchdown passes and rushed for 12 scores. He led the Red Devils to their first league championship in seven years and helped Red Springs reach the third round of the state playoffs for the second consecutive season.

Greene was a unanimous all-state first-team selection by the web site and is joined by Red Springs senior wideout Zach Leach.

Other players of the year by classification include East Lincoln's Garrett Young (2A), Havelock's Pharoh Cooper (3A) and Butler linebacker Peter Kalambayi.

Associated Press Player of the Year T.J. Logan received the Arnold Solomon award, an honor given by NCPreps.com as the state player of the year for all classifications.
