LUMBERTON — A 27-year-old Lumberton man has been arrested and charged with a Chrismas Eve murder.
Mikkos Lajuan Watson, of 909 E. First St., was charged Monday with first-degree murder in the death of of John Rowe, according to a statement by Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker.
Parker said John Rowe, 52, and Sharon Crump, 32, of Spearman Street, were sitting on the front porch of Rowe’s 1114 E. First St. home at about 8:50 p.m. on Dec. 24 when they were both shot. Crump suffered injuries but they were not life threatening, according to Parker. Watson is charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury in the shooting of Crump.
Parker said the motive is unclear.
Parker said that Lumberton police searched Watson’s home on Monday, but he wasn’t there. At about 3 p.m. that day, a 911 call was received from someone who reported that Watson was seen on West Fifth and West Second streets. Watson was arrested shortly afterward without incident, according to Parker.
Watson is being held at the Robeson County jail without bond.
Watson has spent more than three years in prison after previously being convicted of robbery with a dangerous weapon and assault with a deadly weapon.
