LUMBERTON — Bonnie Godwin Carter, 82, of Lumberton, passed away Jan. 23, 2013, at Southeastern Hospice House.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Saddletree Church of God, the Revs. Stoney Locklear, Ronald Locklear and Bishop Kenneth Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in Lumbee Memorial Gardens.
Carter was born in Robeson County on May 28, 1930, a daughter of the late William Daniel Godwin and Claudia Hammonds Godwin.
She was a member of Saddletree Church of God.
She was preceded in death by six sisters, Letha M. Godwin, Lela M. Godwin, Blanche Godwin Kerns, Shelvie Godwin Hunt, Marybelle Barton and Lydia Shores; a brother, Austin Godwin; and a grandson, Eric Oxendine.
She is survived by her husband, David Boyd Carter; three daughters, Vivian C. Oxendine of Pembroke, Linda Carter and Redonna Carter, both of Lumberton; a son, William Boyd Carter of California; two sisters, Katie Acosta of Pembroke and Evelyn Burnette of Lumberton; a brother, William Godwin of Lumberton; 11 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at Revels Funeral Home Lumberton, and other times at the home of her daughter, Redonna Carter, 752 Rowan Road, Lumberton, N.C.
