LUMBERTON — Dr. Robert “Chip” Williams will be joining the Lumberton Children’s Clinic as a pediatric gastroenterologist on Feb. 12.
Williams is a pediatric gastroenterologist who is affiliated with New Hanover Regional Medical Center’s Betty H. Cameron Women’s & Children’s Hospital in Wilmington.
“I am so pleased to have this opportunity to serve the residents in this area,” Williams said..“Gastrointestinal issues are one of the most common complaints among children and being able to provide access for families who previously had to drive for hours to receive the care they needed is a very exciting prospect for me.”
Williams will begin treating patients for ailments ranging from the simple to the complex, including abdominal pain, reflux, vomiting and Crohn’s disease.
“There are hundreds of children in our area who suffer from gastrointestinal conditions,”said Dr. Ricardo Pojol, medical director for Lumberton Children’s Clinic. “Many of these families have been driving hundreds of miles to find this very specialized care. The arrival of Dr. Williams means that these families can now get the very best care possible right in our community.”
Pediatric gastroenterologists treat people 21 years old and younger. .
Originally from St. Petersburg, Fla., Williams received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in Bayshore, N.Y., and completed a pediatric residency at Miami Children’s Hospital. He completed his clinical fellowship in Pediatric Gastroenterology at Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.m and has been practicing pediatric gastroenterology in Tampa, Fla., for the last seven years.
