Staff report

WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre has been unanimously elected to serve as the No. 1 ranking member on the House Armed Services Committee’s Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee. McIntyre already has been serving as the No.3 ranking member on the full Armed Services Committee.

The subcommittee has oversight of U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps programs, including acquisition of all Naval ships and equipment, Marine equipment, and Air Force deep strike bombers.

“Ensuring our nation’s security and freedom is of utmost importance to our entire nation, and it is a great honor to be selected to serve in this leadership position to oversee our Navy and Marine Corps,” McIntyre said in a statement. “We must do all we can to bolster our Naval fleet and air operations and provide the Marine Corps with the equipment they need for combat and security.”

McIntyre has also been appointed to serve on the Tactical Air and Land Forces Subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over all Army and Air Force acquisition programs and weapons systems. In addition, this subcommittee is responsible for Navy and Marine Corps aviation programs and weapons systems, National Guard and Army and Air Force reserve modernization, and ammunition programs.
