Fund to help with teen’s funeral

LUMBERTON — A fund has been set up at Carter Bank in Trust in Lumberton for anyone who wants to contribute to help with funeral expenses for a teenager who died recently in a car accident.

Sixteen-year-old Zachery Murdock, of 467 Great Marsh Church Road, St. Pauls, whose father Ron Murdock is the pastor of Westview Pentecostal Holiness Church., died in the accident that also killed Frank Strickland, the pastor of New Beginnings Church of God. Murdock was on his way to a work at Chick-fil-A in Lumberton when the accident happened. Several other people were injured in the accident on U.S. 301 and are recovering.

The creator of the fund has chosen to remain anonymous. Those who want to donate can do so in person at either of the bank’s locations, at 604 Chestnut St. or 4601 Fayetteville Road.

Murdock was buried on Feb. 7 at Floyd Memory Gardens in Lumberton. He was a student at Lumberton High School, where he was a member of the Beta Club.

He is survived by his parents and two brothers and a sister.
