LUMBERTON — Southeastern Health’s Physician Services division has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for accreditation by demonstrating compliance with national standards for health care quality and safety in ambulatory care organizations.
The division has also earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval by demonstrating compliance with the commission’s national standards for health care quality and safety as a primary care medical home.
SeHealth Physician Services underwent a rigorous announced on-site survey in December. A team of Joint Commission experts evaluated SeHealth Physician Services for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management.
Nearly 1,900 freestanding ambulatory care organizations maintain Joint Commission accreditation.
“Organizations that strive for accreditation in ambulatory care from The Joint Commission are demonstrating the highest commitment to quality and safety to their patients, staff and their community,” said Michael Kulczycki, executive director of the Ambulatory Care Accreditation Program for The Joint Commission.
The Joint Commission’s ambulatory care standards are developed in consultation with health care experts, providers, measurement experts and patients.
“We recognize Joint Commission accreditation as the Gold Seal for providing safe, high quality patient care. Achieving accreditation from The Joint Commission is a team effort that will bring confidence to our patients and give us a framework to provide the best care possible,” said Joann Anderson, president and CEO of SeHealth.
A team of Joint Commission experts in July also evaluated SeHealth Physician Services for compliance with standards related to how effectively the primary care clinician and the interdisciplinary team work in partnership with the patient to provide comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centered care. The effort helps accredited ambulatory care organizations ensure their patients receive timely and appropriate treatment, increase patient satisfaction, improve patient outcomes and reduce the overall costs to the health care system.
Southeastern Health, a non-profit, is a comprehensive health care system that offers an array of health care services through its affiliated divisions. Southeastern Health includes Southeastern Regional Medical Center, which is licensed for 452 beds and offers a combination of acute care, intensive care and psychiatric services to more than 90,000 patients a year.
