Charles E. Musselwhite

WILMINGTON — Charles E. Musselwhite, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully Feb. 16, 2013, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center following a stroke.

The funeral for Charles Musselwhite will be 1 p.m. today at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home Chapel in Fayetteville, Dr. Brian Lee officiating.

He was born in Robeson County on July 26, 1926.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Musselwhite.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Vincent and her husband Carmon of Wilmington, and a son, Perry Musselwhite of Fayetteville.

Prior to his move to Wilmington, Charles was a long-time member of the LaFayette Village Baptist Church. After his relocation to Wilmington, he joined Pine Valley Baptist Church and made many dear friends. Charles was a good man who enjoyed Christian fellowship and, recognizing his good fortune in life, was eager and willing to share with others. He was a good father who loved his family and they always knew they were loved. His passing leaves a gaping hole in their lives.

Charles served in the Navy during World War II. He retired in 1986 from Federal Civil Service, where he worked 29 years within the Commissary Division at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, N.C. He was a founding member of the LaFayette Village Volunteer Fire Department and was active from 1958 to 1980.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today before the service at Jernigan Warren Funeral Home. The burial will be immediately following the service at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Lumberton, N.C.

The family wishes to extend special a thank you to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, Dr. Andre Leonard and his staff for their loving care and assistance. To his friends and neighbors, thank you for taking the time to visit and brighten his days, especially following the death of Alice after 64 years of marriage.
