LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Board of Commissioners will not hold its regular monthly meeting Monday because four commissioners will be attending the annual National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington. The conference began Saturday and continues through Wednesday.
Some of the commissioners attend the conference every year, County Manager Ricky Harris said. This year the commissioners attending will be Chairman Noah Woods, Jerry Stephens, Raymond Cummings and Hubert Sealey.
Woods serves on the national association’s board of directors, while Stephens serves on the board of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.
Tammy Freeman, the board’s secretary, said the registration cost for each commissioner is $490, or a total for all four of the commissioners of $1,960. The total cost for hotel rooms for four nights is another $916 for each commissioner, a total of $3,664.
Freeman said the travel cost has not yet been determined.
Harris said the expenses for travel, hotel rooms and food would be paid for by the county, and would not come from each commissioner’s stipend of $700 a month.
The real question is....How many of you opinionated loud mouth negative people will attend the next meeting to express your warped point of view?
If you don't attend the meetings where your view might make a difference...you might as well shut up!!

Let me guess, the person you have in mind for one of these positions would pay for their own meals when the tab was picked up after a meeting. Yeah right, instead I worrying about food, the real injustice is the corruption that these men are a part of. The back room deals, the questionable hiring practices, ect..

Whether we are in this county or in DC, public servants are just that- servants! We are supposed to be the masters. Now if you on the other hand like to be robbed and have the thives horse laugh at you while they enjoy your money, then feel free to write them a check. You certainly don't speak for me, and I hope to goodness you aren't a public official.

Are you really fussing about meal allowance for these commissioners? I voted for change and did not vote for any of the current commissioners but I also have a brain unlike you.
Don't sweat the small stuff. Positions like these have perks and this is one of them. I personally think the 700 dollar stipend should be lower but why worry about the small stuff when you can focus on bigger things like the corruption going on with the good ole boy network.
Credit check, government dependency and drug test before one can cast a vote....
Then the ones who count will be the ones voting...
You most likely pay NO TAXES, so of course you don't care, but the one's who do pay are interested in seeing where OUR money is spent.

I can't think of any four people in the county better qualified to do it.
Congress is a bunch of rank amateurs compared to them.
Another, this is the off season, I can find hotel rooms a lot cheaper than 250 bucks a night. Why not all of you register and stay at the YMCA?
I hope you tell those folks you are running the poorest county in the state, oops, never mind they already know this. We are the laughing stock of the state COUNTY COMMISIONERS.
