PEMBROKE — A local crisis ministry is aiding a study by the University of Kentucky that will pay participants on Saturday $15.

Sacred Pathways, which is located at 303 W. College St, Pembroke, will be providing office space on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. for researches to conduct what is being called the Food Options North Carolina Study.

“It was the university’s decision to give $15 to people for their time in participating,” said Ruth Woods, project manager of Sacred Pathways.

Woods said that the university is gathering information on hunger. Woods said Sacred Pathways helps local people who are hungry by periodically distributing food boxes, including during holidays such as Thanksgiving.

The study is supported by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service, the University of North Carolina, Feeding Hill, the University of South Carolina and Second Harvest Food Banks.

Nobody's hungry around here, the poor get foodstamps. That's why they've got to pay em to come by and participate. If people were actually hungry, they'd line up for free food...

And further more, stop it with all the free stuff at holidays and such, they have plenty.

Why not give free food to middle class working people who get nothing for free? Of course you'd have to force most to accept anything free, since we have pride, unlike the poor around here...
