RED SPRINGS — Production at Tredegar Film Products has been reduced as the company’s customer, Proctor & Gamble, has lowered its demand for plastics, according to plant manager Steven Hunt.

The plant, which manufactures stretch tabs for Pampers and Luvs diapers, both of which are produced by Procter & Gamble, has cut its 24-hour work days from seven to six, Hunt said. He said the plant received no explanation as to the decline in the corporation’s demand.

“All operations are customer-driven,” he said.

While none of the plant’s 82 employees have lost their jobs, some have seen their hours cut, according to Hunt. He directed questions about how many employees were affected, and the average hourly wage for employees, to the plant’s Human Resources manager, who is out on leave and will not return for four weeks.

The plant opened in the site that once housed the Lacour manufacturing plant in 2005, and started as a “traditional three-shift, five-day operation,” Hunt said. Manufacturing moved to seven days the next year, he said.
