Will the county commissioners keep their backs turned on residents?

To the Editor,

The “Wizard of Oz” is an absolutely wonderful story mostly enjoyed as a child. Real life shouldn’t mimic Dorothy’s nightmare. Symbolically, “Pay No Attention To the Man (Men) Behind the Curtain” has become reality for Robeson citizens.

Our county commissioners are at the controls of Robeson County and they fail to realize that “Toto” is removing the curtain slowly. Tragically amazed, Robeson residents — Dorothy and cCrew — are able to finally peek into Wizard’s dysfunctional process. The discretionary funding process does not follow democratic principles and county commissioner pay and entitlements are bloated.

More than 10 years have passed since the issue was first debated, the commissioners relayed they would take action, and they did. Their pay and entitlements went up and the discretionary fund remains. You have to wonder, will Oz address the issues, will Dorothy and crew be heard, or will the Wizards keep their backs to the residents?

Well. this is a good analogy. I have read where the Rowland community has expressed concerns about the solar panels and the ball has been passed to the county commissioners as to whether to pass a conditional-use permit. A recent similar business decision they had to rule on is the Buie-Philadelphus sand-mine deal. In this case they unaminously voted to grant a conditional-use permit for the sand-mine to begin operation, the opposing neighbors filed a lawsuit and then Judge Floyd did away with the citizen/opposition suit if I am correct. Hubert Sealey, according to the Robesonian's headline today, is voting to fire Green over at Four County for being lax in not having controls in place administratively for accountability. There is never a dull moment these days!

I know these Commissioners and talk with them and they actually think it is fine. They are grinning about what they make. Smirking at the way the people can't do anything. CONTROL is the name of the game according to Noah. POWER according to Raymond. SPENDING according to Roger. LOOSING according to the People of Robeson County. We are heard but our comments are just what the article says. We are under the Wizards dysfunctional process. Keep the pressure on and maybe a tornado will blow them out of the LAND OF OZ we call Robeson County.

The ONLY way ANYTHING will EVER "CHANGE" in Robeson County is WHEN the VOTERS go to the Polls to vote and make certain ALL Commissioners are NOT voted back in -- it is a JOKE if anyone thinks the Commissioners or the members of the City Council care about ANYTHING other than themselves and what THEY can RECEIVE from the citizens of Robeson County -- WAKE UP RESIDENTS and realize YOU are the ONLY ones who can make a difference!!

The Commissioners will not address anything or anyone if it does not benefit them with cash or a deal behind the curtain. It is sad and a disgrace that our tax dollars are working against the people instead of for the people. Please step down Commissioners. We need Leader's instead of the follower's of Noah Wood's and Raymond Cummings set in stone benefit packages. Does anyone know where we can get help for our county? Who do we contact???? Outside of Robeson County of Course!
