LUMBER BRIDGE — A 34-year-old woman was charged Tuesday with burning her husband’s clothes, shoes, glasses, cologne and jewelry in the front yard of their Lumber Bridge home, according to the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office.
Deaven Lee Smith, of 803 McNeill Pond Road, was charged with burning of personal property after her husband, Gregory Smith, called the Sheriff’s Office at 8:37 a.m. on March 6 to report that she had set fire to his property following a disagreement the two had on Feb. 25, according to Lt. Brian Duckworth, Robeson County arson investigator.
It is unclear why Gregory Smith waited so long to file a report, Duckworth said.
“There was a lot more burnt than what I found,” Duckworth said. “All I found were remains, but the report listed a lot more than what I was able to recover.”
Smith was not living at the home at the time of the fire, according to Duckworth. Duckworth said that damages were estimated to be several thousand dollars.
Smith’s bond was set at $5,000.
