The Pirates (2-6, 1-1 Southeastern Conference) had half of the game’s six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning, where they scored their final three runs to go up 8-4, giving them a cushion when Hoke scored two more runs in the top of the seventh.

“We’re really glad we put up that three spot because they scored two in the top of sixth,” Lumberton coach Paul Hodges said.

Lumberton took advantage of five errors by Hoke, four of which came in the fourth inning, when Lumberton put up its first five runs and put the Pirates up 5-2.

LHS never lost the lead, though Hoke got it down to 5-4 in the top of the fifth, a score that stood until Lumberton’s sixth-inning rally.
