Hilda Powell Sanderson, 89, of 1800 India Hook Road, passed away Nov. 13, 2012, at Wayne Patrick Hospice House.

The funeral will be 2 p.m Friday at Greene Funeral Home, Dr. Robert Shrum officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery.

Born Jan. 1, 1923, to the late J.D. and Melissa Powell of Saddletree, Hilda graduated from high school near Lumberton, trained and worked as a hairstylist in Raleigh, and as a dental assistant in St. Pauls, before marrying the late Charlie Baxter (C.B.) Sanderson from Lumberton, in 1948.

Hilda was a wonderful wife, homemaker and partner to C.B., and together they farmed tobacco, corn and poultry near Evergreen. She helped build and support Boardman Baptist Church, where she served faithfully in numerous positions in Adult Women’s Sunday school and in WMU. Upon their retirement in 1982, Hilda and C.B. moved to Rock Hill, where she was an active member of Oakland Baptist Church and an officer in the Women’s Variety Club.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings and a great-grandson, Drew Howard.

She is survived by her son, Larry Sanderson (Becky) of Rock Hill; her daughters, Linda Blackwell (Eddie) of Rock Hill, and Doris Edwards of Raleigh; her grandchildren, Meredith Sanderson Jordan (Jeff) of Hartsville, S.C., Rebecca Sanderson Fisher (Corey) of Pittsburgh, Angela Sanderson Counts (Alan) of Rock Hill, Andy Blackwell and fiancé Courtney Andrews of Columbia, S.C., Beth Blackwell Brown (Derek) of Rock Hill, Donna Edwards Howard (Peter) of Cary, and Darren Edwards (Melissa) of Cary; her great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Samuel, and Wesley Jordan, Maximus and Adda Fisher, Kaleb and Zoe Brown, Kathryn and Emily Howard, and Caroline and Lauren Edwards; her sister, Lenora Cass of Utah; a sister-in-law, Colleen Sealy of Raleigh; a brother-in-Law, Bobby Sanderson of Evergreen; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Friday prior to the service at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, S.C., 29732.
